There are currently two main methods of applying to join the Woodward Group as a Masters or PhD student.
The recommended method for non-Japanese students is application via the GPES graduate program at The University of Tokyo. For more details on the program, please visit the GPES website, which contains detailed information on how to apply. There are two application rounds per year.
Application involves a number of application documents (in particular a test score for the GRE general paper) and an interview conducted by videoconference (the entire application process can be conducted from outside Japan). Schedule 1 involves application during December for enrollment the following September. Schedule 2 involves application during June / July for enrollment the following April.
For Japanese students wishing to join the Woodward Group, the recommended method is through the Department of Basic Science. This method involves taking an entrance examination in Japanese and allows enrollement in April of the year following this examination. For further details, please visit the DBS website.
2) As a Postdoctoral Research Associate
Opportunities exist to come to work in the Woodward research group through fellowships from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Details on how to apply for this scheme are available on the JSPS website. If you are interested in joining the group and applying for one of these fellowships, please contact Prof. Woodward by e-mail (woodward[at]global.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp) to discuss the possibilities.
